Kim's Story (first employee of the Good Farm Shop)

Aug 28, 2025

After nearly 20 years raising our family and supporting my husband’s business, I decided it was time to do something for myself.

I wanted to do some part time work, but I also I wanted it to be meaningful. I knew I still had strong skills to offer, but where to start?

I came across The Good Farm Shop online when searching for healthy ready meals.  I placed my first order, and loved the food!  Loved the sustainable packaging! Loved a family-owned and run business which supported organic and regenerative farming.  I wanted to know more about regenerative farming.

I went to the Sydney Film Festival in 2023 to see Rachel’s Farm. The film spoke to me in two distinct ways.  Rachel’s Farm is a film about hope and conveys the strong message that we can turn things around - we can heal the depleted soil, we can create more biodiversity, we can lessen the extreme weather events and their impact, we can sequester carbon through regenerative farming, we can prioritise animal welfare, and we can provide ourselves with the best nutrition in the process. On a more personal level, the film shows an inspiring and incredible woman as she takes the bull by the horns (not literally, that would be crazy), and sets about transforming her farm to regenerative practices.

At my own turning point of sorts, and after seeing Rachel’s Farm, I knew I wanted to be involved with something in the sustainability realm.

Pondering over a hearty and delicious meal of The Good Farm Shop’s Coconut Chicken Curry, I started writing a list of businesses that came under the heading of, “I love what this business does, and I want to be a part of it”.  The business had to be Sydney-based, doing something meaningful and didn’t require corporate attire! The list of possibilities narrowed, until the answer was staring me in the face, literally on my dinner plate – The Good Farm Shop.

Sent my first email to Matilda in June 2023. She replied to say they didn’t need anyone at the time, but that she would keep me in mind as the business grew.

I followed up with another email in October 2023, we met for coffee, and now she can’t live without me. 😊
