Honest food. Hard choices. Here’s where we land.

Jun 12, 2025

We’ve built The Good Farm Shop on honesty, high standards, and real food.

Recently, a passionate customer reached out, upset that we use certified organic chicken—specifically because these birds are vaccinated.

We want to speak openly about this, because we know many of you care deeply about where your food comes from. So do we.

Here’s the truth:

✅ We’ve always sourced from the same certified organic poultry supplier, right from the beginning. These farmers uphold incredibly high standards: outdoor access, organic feed, no antibiotics, no synthetic chemicals, and ethical processing.

🐓 Yes, their chickens are vaccinated—not routinely medicated, but vaccinated preventatively to avoid serious disease and suffering. Under organic standards, vaccines are used only when absolutely necessary and never with synthetic additives or antibiotics.

In most cases, these are what’s called live attenuated vaccines—which means they contain a tiny, weakened version of the virus or bacteria, just enough to help the animal’s immune system build protection. These vaccines do not remain active in the bird, and leave no residue in the meat. They're designed to protect the animal—not medicate it.

Some assume we’ve compromised as we’ve grown—but the truth is, we’ve never dropped our standards. When we started making meals, we looked everywhere for regenerative chicken suppliers. Most only sell whole birds, and very few offer cuts at scale or at wholesale prices. To make nourishing meals that are affordable, accessible, and consistent—we choose a path that honoured both quality and reality.

We also realised on this journey that we’re not going to please everyone. That’s just the truth. There will always be people who want something different—and that’s okay. But this is our business, and we have to make the final calls, based on our values and our standards. And believe us, our standards are high. But we don’t live our lives on a tightrope, plagued by unrealistic ideologies. We know what we stand for—and we stand by it.

Could we use ultra-niche chicken that ticks every single philosophical box? Sure—but each meal would cost twice as much. That’s not our mission.

Our missions is to challenge the highly industrial, commoditised fast food industry, by making REAL food convenient. And we do it without compromising human health, land ecology and animal welfare.

And we wholeheartedly believe we do that.

We’ll always listen. We’ll always care. But we’re also not afraid to stand firm in what we know to be true.

With heart,
Til and Scott, The Good Farm Shop
